We were appointed to prepare a pre-application design for a new build mosque in Bradford. The project aims to transform the site into a contemporary place of worship enriched with architectural flair, while remaining rooted in its cultural and community context.
The proposal looks beyond prayer alone, providing additional facilities such as classrooms, seminar spaces and areas for e-learning, ensuring the building serves as a centre for knowledge, dialogue and social engagement. A key design focus is the expansion of prayer facilities to accommodate the growing congregation, while ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all users.
Our approach draws upon vernacular materials and the architectural language of Bradford, celebrating its heritage while reinterpreting it for a modern context. By combining sustainable materials, sensitive detailing and human-centric design principles, the mosque will harmonise with its surroundings while projecting a forward-looking identity.
The vision is to create a landmark development that is both spiritual and civic — a welcoming, multi-functional space that strengthens community ties, enhances the local streetscape, and contributes positively to the cultural fabric of the city.
